Alexandria Aces News Release

Alexandria, LA; August 11, 2006 - Luis Espinosa singled off the left-field wall to drive in Richard Paz with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Alexandria Aces recorded a dramatic 4-3 win over the first-place Edinburg Coyotes Friday at Bringhurst Field.

After Edinburg rallied with two runs in the top of the ninth to tie the game 3-3, Paz led off the bottom of the ninth with a seven-pitch at-bat against Coyote reliever Aaron Guerra (1-2). After fouling off a trio of two-strike pitches, Paz lined his first triple of the year down the right-field line. Espinosa, who entered in the seventh inning after Josh Tranum was ejected, hit Guerra's next pitch off the left-field wall to give Alexandria its fourth consecutive win.

Closer Justin Dowdy (3-1) vultured the win after allowing two runs in the top of the ninth inning. Coyote shortstop Abigail Sandoval hit a one-out single into right field to tie the game. Sandoval also drove in the first Coyote run with a second-inning sacrifice fly. That was all Edinburg got against Aces righty Santo Hernandez, who worked eight strong innings and struck out seven batters while allowing only three hits. Coyote starter Neomar Flores held a 1-0 lead until the Aces struck for three runs in the sixth inning.

Selwyn Langaigne, who had two hits, started the rally with a walk. With reliever Adam Clay in the game, Erick Mejias also worked a walk, and the pair then pulled off a double steal. With the infield drawn in, Ryan Smith grounded to shortstop, but catcher Robinson Cancel muffed Sandoval's throw, allowing Langaigne to score. Keto Anderson, who was 3-for-4, followed with a line-drive single to center, giving the Aces a 2-1 lead. Smith later scored on another of four Edinburg errors.

The series continues tomorrow night on U.S. Army Logo Baseball Night at Bringhurst Field, with Alexandria lefthander Buddy Bengel facing Edinburg southpaw Bric Steed. For more information, call 473-ACES or log on to www.myacesbaseball.com.
