Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

Harlingen, TX - The first half champion Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (39-39, 10-18) continued their second half struggles as they fell to the Amarillo Dillas (43-37, 17-13) 10-2 tonight at Harlingen Field.

The WhiteWings fell to .500 for the second time this season. The last time was May 9th, when the WhiteWings lost game two of the season to the Dillas and fell to 1-1. They have never been below .500.

The Dillas got the early jump on Joe Rogers (9-2) despite getting just one hit. Jonathan Reynoso and Carlos Figueroa drew walks to set-up Danny Bravo's 12th home run of the season, a three-run shot, to make it 3-0.

Bravo continued to be a thorn in Rogers' side in the second, drawing a two-out bases-loaded walk to make it 4-0.

Jordan Ramos extended his league-best hitting streak to 22-games with a third inning solo-shot, his fourth of the season, to make it 5-0.

The WhiteWings had a scary moment at the end of the inning when Reynoso hit a two-out blooper to shallow left field. Omar Bramasco went out for it and David Cardona came in. Bramasco slid to make the catch, but in the process, he and Cardona collided. Bramasco was able to continue in the ball game, but Cardona had to be helped off the field. He was replaced by Ericnardo Padilla.

With two outs in the fifth, Ramos singled and Ashton tried to lay down a bunt single. Kevin Griffin pounced on it and fired the ball up the right field line, allowing Ramos to score and Ashton to go to third, making it 6-0.

That was more than enough to back Dario Ferrand (1-8) who allowed just two hits in five and two-thirds innings with four walks, two hit batters and four strikeouts to pick up his first win of the season.

The Dillas added some insurance in the seventh as Bravo led off with an infield single and Gary Schneidmiller hit an RBI-double to make it 7-0.

Crespi led off the eighth with a triple off Bryce Ahrendt and came around to score on a Justin Wenger RBI-sinlge to make it 8-0.

The WhiteWings broke through against Josh Chitwood in the eighth as Bramasco doubled and Miguel Peguero hit his sixth home run of the season two pitches later to make it 8-2.

The Dillas got those two back in the top of the ninth with Brendan Hitchcock reached on an infield single and Ramos walked. Josh Ashton followed with an RBI-single that Luany Sanchez misplayed in left field, allowing Ramos to score and make it 10-2.

The WhiteWings welcome the Edinburg Coyotes into town for the first of four tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Maximino de la Cruz (6-5) is expected to face Angel Rocha (1-3).
