Amarillo Dillas News Release

AMARILLO, TX - Amarillo Dillas starting pitcher Taylor Allen struck out a career-high 12 batters and walked only one in nine innings of work, including retiring 15 of the last 16 Edinburg Roadrunners batters as Amarillo came away victorious Friday night 3-2 over the Roadrunners in front of 1,886 fans at the Amarillo National Dilla Villa.

Allen (3-2) got his seventh career complete game and first of the season in allowing both Edinburg runs and only seven hits. Roadrunners starter Pedro Flores (1-3) got the loss despite allowing only three runs through seven innings as he allowed ten Dillas hits.

To start their offensive day, Amarillo's Keanon Simon led off with a single in the first. He would move to second on an Andrew Wong groundout, to third on a Carlos Figueroa groundout and score on a Terrance McClain single to give the Dillas a 1-0 lead.

The Roadrunners would respond with two runs of their own in the fourth, one a bases loaded RBI sacrifice fly by Carlos Hereaud and the other an RBI single by Eric Gonzalez to move ahead 2-1.

Amarillo would tie up the game in the sixth as Simon once again singled to lead off, Wong singled to move him to second, and once again, McClain singled to bring home Simon for a 2-2 tie game. In the seventh, the Dillas would retake the lead as Eric Brown led off with a single, went to second on a Justin Wenger sacrifice, went to third on a Willie James single, while an error would bring the run home for a 3-2 Amarillo lead.

That would be all that Allen would need as he struck out the side in the eighth and added his career-high twelfth strikeout and retired the side in order in the ninth for his first complete game of the season and preserved a 3-2 Dillas victory.

With the win, the Dillas improve to 20-16, while the Roadrunners fall to 16-19. Saturday, Amarillo will travel to Coastal Bend to visit the Thunder for the opening game of a four-game series at 7:05pm. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
