Dietz, Marler Earn AFL Honors

Tampa Bay Storm News Release
TAMPA BAY - The Arena Football League has announced that quarterback Brett Dietz has earned Rookie of the Month for the month of June and 2007 All-AFL Rookie Team honors while kicker Seth Marler was named Kicker of the Month for the month of June as well. This is the second consecutive month that Dietz and Marler have won their respective monthly honors.
Dietz, 6-foot-4, 220-pounds, completed 86-of-134 passes for 1,132 yards with 24 touchdowns and only one interception during the month of June as he guided the Storm to a season-best 4-0 monthly record. His best performance of the month came in a 61-55 victory over New Orleans in Week 14 as he completed 23-of-30 passes for 315 yards and eight touchdowns and earned AFL Offensive Player of the Week honors.
"This is a nice surprise," said Dietz. "Starting the year of in Chicago I never thought about the All-Rookie team. Even after I arrived here in Tampa I was more concerned with learning the offense and fulfilling my role backing up John (Kaleo). It is a nice honor but I am more concerned about the playoffs and getting to the ArenaBowl."
Marler, 6-1, 200-pounds, is a former Lou Groza Award winner out of Tulane University. Marler (6-1, 195, Tulane) connected on 30-of-34 PATs and converted a League-best 6-of-8 field goal attempts for a League leading 48 points during the month of June that saw his Tampa Bay Storm (9-7) post a 4-0 record. Marler had his best performance in a 69-40 victory over the Grand Rapids on June 16 as he converted 9-of-9 PATs and field goals from 41 and 32 yards.
"We couldn't be any more proud of these two than we are today," said Head Coach and General Manager Tim Marcum. "These guys bust their hump in practice and work hard, it is a feather in their cap and a testament to our season."
Dietz also earned Rookie of the Month in May. He finished the season as the highest rated rookie quarterback with a 119.3 rating, tied for the second highest rating all-time in the AFL and the highest single-season rating in franchise history. His 65.9 completion percentage is the third highest by a rookie in AFL history and highest in franchise history for a signal-caller with more than 200 attempts.
Marler earned Kicker of the Month in may as well. He accounted for 140 points this season, as he went 16-for-20 (80.0%) on field goals and 92-for-99 (92.9%) on extra points. His 16 extra points were one shy of the Storm record for field goals while his 92 extra points made ranked third all-time.
