SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Montreal Impact (MLS) announced today that striker Didier Drogba will continue his preparation for the 2016 MLS season in Sacramento over the next few days, with Sacramento Republic FC (USL) and his physiotherapist.
"We are delighted to have the opportunity to host someone with the pedigree of Didier Drogba," said Republic FC Director of Football Graham Smith. "He is a world class player. For our players to see a master craftsman at close quarters is invaluable. We are pleased to be able to assist a club such as Montreal Impact of MLS and do our best to ensure Drogba is welcomed into the city. It is one more way for us to showcase Sacramento as a football capitol."
Due to swelling in Drogba's left knee when he trains and plays on an artificial surface, the Montreal Impact want to decrease any risk of injury.
If everything goes well, Drogba could be available to play the third game of the season, on March 19 in Dallas, then the sixth in Chicago, on April 16, before the home opener at Stade Saputo, on April 23.
