Their last meeting was a July 17, 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinal match at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas, where Colombia eliminated Mexico from the region's tournament.

A special fan interactive area, Futbol Fiesta, which spans more than 100,000 square feet, will be featured prior to the game and it will include live music and thousands of promotional items.

The Mexican National Team's U.S. tour not only allows its U.S.-based fans to witness their nation's matches first hand, but allows the team to play top flight opponents while strengthening its player pool and preparing for major international tournaments. Mexico finished second in the recently-concluded 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup, falling to their arch-rivals, the United States, 2-1. Mexico is now in Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela, where they will face Brazil (June 27), Ecuador (July 1) and Chile (July 4) in the first round phase of Copa America.
