Everett Silvertips News Release
SPOKANE, Wash. - Captain Connor Dewar broke a 1-1 tie with a pair of back to back goals and Gage Goncalves scored his first career WHL goal, helping the Everett Silvertips rally to a 3-1 victory over the Spokane Chiefs before 5,350 fans at Spokane Arena on Friday in WHL action.
The Silvertips ran their point streak to 15 straight games (13-0-1-1), emerging from the 12-day holiday break with their fifth win in seven games this season against Spokane. Dustin Wolf made 14 saves in net for the win, including a game-breaking save on Riley Woods late in regulation.
UP NEXT: The Tips return home Saturday night for a 7:05pm puck drop against the Prince George Cougars at A.O.T.W. Arena. Tickets are on sale at www.everettsilvertips.com/tickets.
Jack Finley deposited a 1-0 Spokane lead at 18:19 of the first period, finishing a rebound at the left post after Dustin Wolf turned away a low shot by Tyson Feist from the right circle. Riley Sutter nearly came back on a wraparound attempt next shift, but Brkin closed his skate against the post to keep the Silvertips off the board.
Wolf came up with nine saves in the period which kept the Silvertips in the balance and provided support for the rally which began in the second period on Goncalves' first career goal at 1:21. Sahvan Khaira snuck a low shot through traffic from the blueline that caromed off Brkin's pads, and Goncalves cleaned up the rebound.
Dewar put the Tips ahead, 2-1 with 5:59 left in the second period on a power play goal when he took Jake Christiansen's feed at the left circle and blasted a shot through traffic for his team leading 25th of the year. Late in the third period, Wolf came up huge with a stop on Riley Woods, wide open at the right circle, to preserve the lead.
Dewar put the game away with an empty net goal from center ice with 1:39 left in regulation.
Bailey Brkin made 40 saves in the losing effort.
