Cougars End Skid, Beat Seattle

PRINCE GEORGE, BC - The Prince George Cougars snapped their five-game winless streak Friday, edging the Seattle Thunderbirds 2-1 at the ShoWare Center in Kent, Washington.

Vladislav Mikhalchuk and Josh Maser scored in the second and their periods respectively, and Taylor Gauthier made 29-saves, en route to being named the first star, as the Cougars won for the first time since December 2nd. Mikhalchuk broke a scoreless deadlock early in the second, converting on a rebound 64-seconds into the frame. Mikhalchuk scoring his fifth goal against Seattle this season and 13th on the year. He also assisted on the game-winning goal in the third period.

The Cougars led 1-0 up until the midway mark of the third, when Maser finished off a three-way passing play, scoring his 11th of the season. The T-Birds did cut the Cougars lead to one with under seven-minutes left, but Gauthier closed the door, as he picked up his eighth win of the season.

Friday also was the Cougars first road win since November 11th, when they shutout the Vancouver Giants 1-0. The Cougars won three of their four games against the Thunderbirds this season.
