Charleston Battery News Release
Devin Rensing has departed the Charleston Battery and joined Las Vegas Lights FC to take over as the head coach of the Nevada club, the teams announced Monday.
Rensing served as assistant coach on Ben Pirmann's staff in Charleston since 2023, helping guide the Battery to back-to-back appearances in the Eastern Conference Final, including winning the conference title in 2023. Rensing deputized for Coach Pirmann on the touchline four times in Charleston, posting a perfect 4W-0L-0D record in those games and winning by a margin of 14-5.
"For Devin, I'm very excited," said Coach Pirmann. "Tremendous, tremendous coach, incredible person. While we at the Charleston Battery are losing a massive asset to our club and community, part of our mission is to continue to push players, coaches and staff members in their lives and careers.
"Devin is an expert in understanding the USL. It's a difficult league and often specialized and unique. He understands what it takes to win, from recruitment to management to treating people well to ultimately winning football matches. On one hand, we are sad that he has departed the club, on the other, one of the best coaches in our country will thrive in Las Vegas and we wish him the absolute best."
The St. Louis native's coaching career has spanned roughly two decades, and he arrived in Charleston after serving on Coach Pirmann's staff at Memphis 901 FC in 2021 and 2022. Rensing previously compiled an 82W-16L-7D record as the men's soccer head coach for the Stevens Institute of Technology and the California Institute of Technology, winning two coach of the year awards. He is now set to become the 10th manager in Las Vegas' history.
Rensing is the second assistant from Coach Pirmann's Charleston staff to take a head coaching position, after Leigh Veidman took over at USL League One side Spokane Velocity FC following his 2023 tenure.
The club thanks Devin for his contributions to the Battery's successes since 2023 and wishes him the best in his new chapter in Las Vegas.
