Devils Powerplay Downs Jackals

Trenton, NJ- Three powerplay goals and strong goaltending helped the Trenton Devils pick up a win over the Elmira Jackals tonight at Sovereign Bank Arena 4-2. The Jackals look to pick up two points tomorrow morning in Reading, when they challenge the Royals at 11:05 a.m.

The Devils powerplay opened the scoring at the 5:18 mark of the first on a Tony Zancanaro tally. The Jackals would strike back with a goal from Benoit Doucet. Again his line mates, Chris Korchinski and Derek Couture would get the assists at the 6:37 mark. Moments later at the 11:17 mark the Devils powerplay would strike again. This time Eric Castonguay took a pass from Jim Henkel to make it 2-1.

Trailing 2-1 to start the middle frame, the Jackals tied the game at the 5:36 mark. Doucets second of the game, 29th point of the season, was assisted by Wes Cunningham and Derek Couture. The Devils would counter with two goals, the first came at the 8:32 mark, the second at the 13:47 mark. Dylan Quale and Jeff Prough would get credited with the goals.

The 4-2 score would hold all the way through the third period. The Jackals made attempts in the late minutes with an empty net but were unable to crack Gerald Coleman.

With the loss the Jackals fall to 19-17-1-3 while the Devils improve to 19-16-1-2.
