Trenton Devils News Release

WHEELING, WV -- The Trenton Devils played their most complete game of the regular season with a 6-0 triumph over the Wheeling Nailers in front of 5,515 fans at Sovereign Bank Arena Saturday night.

The Devils clinched the second seed in the North Division and will meet the Elmira Jackals in a best-of-seven series that starts Friday in Trenton.

Tony Zancanaro put the Devils on the board with a power play goal in his second straight game. Ryan Gunderson fired a slap shot that bounced off the end glass and to the side of the net, where Zancanaro banged it home for his sixth of the season at 9:11.

The Devils continued to pressure the Nailers in the offensive zone and were rewarded with a late goal in the first. Matt Cohen unleashed a shot from the far point that was deflected off the stick of Jim Henkel for his 23rd of the season at 19:20.

In the second period, the game continued to be dominated by the Devils. Jeff Prough scored his 34th of the season after a discussion between the officials over whether the puck had crossed the line, and after 30 seconds the goal was awarded at 12:24.

Eric Castonguay scored 2:07 after showing tremendous patience on the power play. Castonguay carried the puck slowly through the right wing of the Nailers zone and camped behind the net, banking the puck off of Nailers goaltender David Brown for his 29th goal of the season at 14:31. Brown was pulled after the goal in favor of Curtis Darling.

The goaltender switch did not help the Nailers, as the Devils scored another late tally courtesy of Brad Snetsinger, who put in his own rebound past Darling at 19:35 for his 21st goal of the season.

Jeremy Akeson completed the Devils barrage with a goal after a pretty feed by Snetsinger, who spun around and found Akeson in the slot for the final goal at 17:47 of the third.

Gerald Coleman picked up his fourth shutout of the season with 27 saves, while Prough and Akeson each had a goal and two assists.

The Devils play Game 1 of the North Division Semifinals against the Jackals at home Friday night, with the opening faceoff set for 7:00 p.m. A complete schedule is available on www.trentondevils.com.

Individual tickets for the Kelly Cup Playoffs for the first two home games of the Division Semifinals are now available! Get your tickets by logging on to the Devils' official website, www.trentondevils.com.
