BINGHAMTON (March 30, 2018) - The Laval Rocket fell to the divisional rival Binghamton Devils 3-2 at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena on Friday night, in their second of three road games this week.
It took the energy of a fight between Antoine Waked and Ben Thomson in the first for the players to settle into the game and for the scoring to open up, as the first period was slow-paced and only had 11 combined shots on goal. However, shortly after the fight, Chris Terry netted his 29th of the year to give Sylvain Lefebvre's team the lead. Adam Cracknell patiently outwaited a diving Binghamton defenseman to pass the puck to Terry, whose one-timer found its way behind the Devils' Eddie Lack. Terry earned the game's second star honors for his efforts.
On the other side of the ice, Michael McNiven was beat halfway through the second by an elaborate tic-tac-toe passing play between Kevin Rooney, Michael Latta and John Edwardh, which finished with Rooney sliding the puck behind the Laval netminder. However, the game didn't stay tied for long - only two minutes after the Binghamton goal, Thomas Ebbing shot a puck on the outside of Lack's post and Jérémy Gregoire took advantage of Lack not knowing where it was to jam it behind him. Unfortunately for the visitors, the Devils responded in a similar fashion to them and re-tied the game two minutes later.
With Jordan Boucher in the penalty box for the Rocket early in the third, the Devils claimed their first and only lead of the evening by screening McNiven, who made 26 saves in the Rocket loss. The rest of the period was scoreless, but Laval forced the Devils to work hard to defend their lead and with McNiven on the bench in the final minute, they forced Lack to make back-to-back big saves to maintain the Devils' lead until the final buzzer sounded and declared their victory.
