PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Lowell Devils had five different players light the lamp as they defeated the Providence Bruins, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The Devils took two of three on the weekend for their seventh win in their last nine games.
Tied, 1-1, in the second period, Patrick Davis gave Lowell its first lead of the contest with his eighth goal of the season. Brad Mills saw a lane to the left side of the net and fired a centering pass that Davis banged home at 10:59.
Providence thought it would carry the momentum into the locker room when it scored on the power play and knotted the game with 1:22 left before the intermission. Martin St. Pierre stationed himself at the near post and sent a feed across the slot that a pinching Jeff Penner slapped past Jeff Frazee to make the score 2-2.
Frazee would not allow the Bruins to score for the rest of the game, finishing with 33 saves for his fourth straight win.
Just under a minute after Penner's goal, Lowell took back its lead thanks to a 2-on-1 rush. Skating down the left wing, Barry Tallackson took Rod Pelley's pass across the crease and knocked it over the blocker of goalie Kevin Regan.
In the final frame, the Devils got a much-needed two-goal cushion with 4:47 remaining when Michael Swift re-deposited the rebound from the initial chance in close by Jon DiSalvatore.
Matt Corrente's clearing attempt at 18:45 went the length of the ice and into the open net to make the final score, 5-2.
Wacey Rabbit gave Providence the 1-0 lead midway through the first after Brad Marchand went into the near corner to gather a loose puck. Marchand slid a pass to the slot where Rabbit one-timed it over the glove of Frazee.
The Devils tied the game at one on a four-on-four situation that carryied into the early moments of the second period. Nicklas Bergfors led an odd-man rush into the Bruins zone and feathered a pass to Petr Vrana, which he backhanded inside the left post at 1:05 for his sixth goal of the year.
