CLEVELAND - Tyler Weiman made 31 saves to record his fourth shutout of the year and anchor the Lake Erie Monsters to a 3-0 win over the Philadelphia Phantoms on Sunday afternoon at Quicken Loans Arena. It was the 1000th regular season game in Phantoms history and brought the team to a 20-18-1-1 record at the halfway point of the 2008-09 season.

After a scoreless first period, the Monsters jumped ahead with two goals in the second period. The first came near the game's halfway point when T.J. Galiardi came down the left side and fired a shot that changed direction off a Phantoms skate. The altered flight path was enough to get the puck past Michael Teslak at 10:17 to give Lake Erie a 1-0 lead.

That advantage was doubled at the very end of Lake Erie's second power play. Darcy Campbell let go a shot from the left point that hit the inside of the left post and went in one second after the Phantoms returned to full strength. The technically even-strength goal made it 2-0 with 5:09 left, sending the Monsters to the locker room with a 2-0 first-intermission advantage.

Monsters captain Nathan Smith finished off the scoring at 14:18 of the third period. He was coming down center ice while Per Ludin carried the puck down the left wing. Smith tipped home Ludin's centering pass over Teslak's shoulder for the 3-0 final.

The Monsters fired 38 shots on Teslak, marking the eighth consecutive game the Phantoms have given up at least that many. He made 35 stops. It marked the second consecutive game that the Phantoms were held without a goal.

The Phantoms return home to Philadelphia on Wednesday, January 14 for a 7:05 match-up with the Worcester Sharks. The Phantoms will celebrate their 1,000th game with several special events highlighting the milestone. Tickets for that game, as well as all 2008-09 regular season games, are available by calling 1-800-298-4200 or visiting phantomshockey.com.
