
Devil Rays pick up second straight win

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. -- The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays beat the Lansing Lugnuts 4-3 Saturday night to earn their first winning streak since a three-gamer on May 3-5.
The Devil Rays showed some resilience by scoring three times in the third inning after the Lugnuts got two runners home in the top half of the inning off Jarrad Lavergne. Josh Asanovich had a three-run double to clear the bags and gain the lead in the second. Asanovich also drove home the fourth run of the game in the seventh inning to break a 3-3 tie and put the score at 4-3 which became the final.
Southwest Michigan won for the second time during one of Jarrad Lavergne's starts. He lasted into the sixth inning and allowed just five hits and three runs. Only one of the earned runs was earned. Lavergne also walked four and struck out four.
Calvin Carpenter picked up his first win of the season after a 2 1/3 inning outing. He surrendered just one hit and struck out two. Jose De La Cruz earned his fourth save of the season.
The Devil Rays will take on the Lugnuts on Sunday afternoon in a 2:05 p.m. start that will feature kids run the bases after the game courtesy of McCullough Family Chiropractic Family Sunday. Twinkie the Kid and Captain Cupcake will also be on hand to entertain the fans. The Devil Rays plan on starting Jino Gonzalez tomorrow against Lansing's Kyle Yates.
