Devil Rays gain a Beach Bum

TRAVERSE CITY, MI. The Traverse City Beach Bums announced today that inaugural season radio broadcaster Chad Cooper has accepted a job with the Vero Beach Devil Rays, effective immediately. "Chad knew the Frontier League and its players inside and out, " said John E. Wuerfel, Beach Bums CEO. "He did a great job for us in 2006, we're going to miss him, but it is an excellent opportunity for him to advance his career."

"When people ask me what my ultimate career goals are, I would tell them that I was no different from the players in the Frontier League," said Cooper. "I want to be a Major League broadcaster and this is a large step in trying to achieve that goal."

Cooper came to the Beach Bums fresh off winning the Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year award in 2005 and instantly bonded with the fans.

"Being around the fans and Wuerfel Park is something I'm going to miss. There is a passion for the game in Traverse City like none other in the Frontier League and the way that the people of Northern Michigan came out and supported the team welcomed me with open arms makes the summer of 2006 something that I will cherish forever," said Cooper.

Entering his eighth year as a professional sports broadcaster, Cooper started at with the Nauticom Sports Network in the fall of 2000. A native of Philadelphia, 2007 will be his fifth in minor league baseball.

The Traverse City Beach Bums are a member of the Frontier League, a 12-team Independent Professional Baseball League established in 1993. The Beach Bums play a 96 game schedule with 51 home games between late May and early September. Their home opener is Friday, May 25, 2007 against division rivals, the Kalamazoo Kings.
