Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release
The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays defeated the Swing of the Quad Cities on Saturday night by a score of 5-1. It was the first sell-out crowd at C.O. Brown Stadium this season and the Rays gave the fans something to cheer about.
Mike Wlodarczyk took the start for the Rays and limited the Swing to only one earned run off of nine hits. Wlodarczyk earned the win, giving him six on the year. He pitched 5.1 innings with one strikeout and one walk before handing the game over to Kevin Lynn.
Lynn tossed 2.1 innings and fanned three while giving up only one hit. Mr. Automatic, Greg Dupas, entered in the eighth frame and never allowed a batter to reach first base. The Midwest League All-Star struck out two batters on his way to converting his 16th straight save attempt.
The Devil Rays registered 10 hits (all singles) in a very solid night at the plate. Garrett Groce led the way by going 2-4 with two RBI and one run scored. Cesar Suarez and David Cardona also went 2-4 and each scored a run. Christian Lopez earned himself a couple of RBI with one hit and a sacrifice fly that scored Groce.
The Devil Rays and Swing face off again tomorrow at 3:35 pm in the second meeting of the four-game series. It's a busy day at the ballpark on Sunday. Prior to the game, the Devil Rays will be hosting a youth clinic to teach the youngsters the fundamentals of the game. The first 1,000 kids through the gates will receive a Fielder's Glove courtesy of The Dow Chemical Company. It's McCullough Family Chiropractic Family Sunday and kids get to race the bases like the pros immediately following the game. There will also be a Christian Concert in the Family Fun Park after the game. Local Christian rock sensations "OneEyeCry" will be performing and area spiritual leader Kelly Hadlich will be on hand to deliver and uplifting message to the crowd. -KV
