Grand Rapids Griffins News Release
DETROIT - The Detroit Red Wings today recalled defenseman Xavier Ouellet from the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins and recalled goaltender Jonas Gustavsson from his conditioning loan with the Griffins. Additionally, the Red Wings assigned goaltender Tom McCollum to the Griffins.
Ouellet, 21, has played 21 games for the Red Wings this season, notching three points (2-1-3), including his first NHL goal on Nov. 28 versus New Jersey. He has also appeared in 24 games with Grand Rapids, recording eight points (1-7-8) and a plus-seven rating. The Bayonne, France, native has totaled 94 career AHL games over the past two seasons, logging 25 points (5-20-25), a plus-10 rating and 40 penalty minutes. Originally drafted by Detroit in the second round (48th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Ouellet skated in 223 games with the QMJHL's Montreal Juniors and Blainville-Boisbriand Armada from 2009-13, recording 160 points (41-119-160) and capturing a spot on the QMJHL First All-Star Team in back-to-back seasons (2012 and 2013).
Gustavsson, 30, started two games for the Griffins during his conditioning stint, making 29 saves on 31 shots in a 4-0 loss to the Milwaukee Admirals on Saturday and stopping 30-of-31 during Wednesday's 3-1 win in a matinee contest against the Toronto Marlies. The Danderyd, Sweden, native has not played for Detroit since suffering a shoulder injury during an overtime loss to the New York Rangers on Nov. 5. He has appeared in 37 games for Detroit over the last three seasons, sporting a 19-8-6 record, a 2.65 goals-against average and a 0.903 save percentage. Over his 144-game NHL career between Detroit and Toronto, Gustavsson is 58-53-21 with a 2.89 goals-against average, a 0.901 save percentage and six shutouts.
McCollum, 25, has appeared in two games for Detroit this season, posting a 0.91 goals-against average and 0.960 save percentage, while notching his first NHL win in a relief effort on Jan. 18 vs. Buffalo. The Cambria, N.Y., native has also appeared in 21 games with the Griffins, posting a 10-8-3 record with a 2.33 goals-against average and a 0.911 save percentage, returning to the AHL having won his last five starts. Originally drafted by Detroit in the first round (30th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, McCollum enjoyed his best professional season in 2013-14, posting career highs in wins (24), goals-against average (2.30) and save percentage (0.922), along with two shutouts.
