Detroit City FC Under the National Spotlight, Hosting Las Vegas on ESPN2
August 19, 2023 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Detroit City FC News Release
Detroit, Michigan - Detroit City FC is looking to kick its form into high gear as they begin its Push for the Playoffs and Le Rouge is ready to welcome Las Vegas Lights FC of the Western Conference to Keyworth Stadium on Saturday in a match nationally televised on ESPN 2. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM. Tickets are still available but going fast, find them here.
This is the second match in club history to be broadcast on national television, with last year's 1-1 draw against El Paso Locomotive FC in front of a sold-out crowd at Keyworth Stadium being televised on ESPN.
Detroit City FC is fresh off of a 1-0 loss to Charleston Battery FC following an off-weekend. Le Rouge held strong defensively as chances were hard to come by for the visiting Charleston who would eventually find the deadlock-breaking goal in the second half to claim all three points.
Le Rouge will be looking to take advantage of Las Vegas's defensive struggles on the season as the Lights' backline has conceded the third most goals in the USL Championship, 41 in 23 matches played. Attack wise the sides are more evenly matched, having scored the fewest and second-fewest goals in the league thus far in 2023 with Le Rouge finding the back of the net on 17 occasions, 22 for Vegas.
Las Vegas comes into Saturday's match currently sitting at the bottom of the Western Conference with a record of 2-8-13 with a goal differential of -19 after 23 matches played. Former Detroit City FC forward, Pato Botello Faz was picked up by Las Vegas Lights FC in the offseason and scored four goals in 18 matches before recently sustaining an injury that sees him sidelined for the foreseeable future.
This is the second meeting between these two clubs with Le Rouge claiming all three points on the road at Cashman Stadium last July by a scoreline of 1-0 thanks to a second-half header from Connor Rutz.
Detroit City FC only has ten more matches remaining in the regular season and is firmly on the playoff bubble, competing with the likes of Loudoun United, Miami FC, FC Tulsa, and Birmingham Legion FC for one of the final playoff places. With only thirty available points remaining in the league this season for Le Rouge, three points in front of a huge crowd on Saturday would do a lot for generating momentum for the Run-In of the 2023 season.
