EDINBURG, Texas - Rio Grande Valley FC (7-8-10) faced Phoenix Rising FC (9-7-8) at H-E-B Park. The home side earned a very needed victory to continue their trek to the playoffs behind a single goal by Galindrez.
Rio Grande Valley scored on a set piece opportunity as Juan Galindrez sent a beautifully placed header shot toward goal, at the 17th minute, leaving no option for Rocco Rios Novo to save. Taylor Davila earned assist credit on the play as he sent the cross form corner into the box for the Colombian striker to hit paydirt, 1-0.
The goal marked Galindrez' third of the year, first at home as he makes his twelfth appearance of the campaign since arriving late in the season.
Juan David Cabezas was sent off in the 45th minute of the first half after receiving a second yellow because of a reckless foul near the center sideline, RGV was left with 10-men prior to the halftime break.
Nothing doing in the second half as the home side locked in defensively and held off the late offensive surge by Phoenix Rising FC who were unable to break the net as Tyler Deric earned clean sheet number four on the year.
