Detroit City FC News Release
HAMTRAMCK, MICHIGAN - The Detroit City Football Club returned to the win column with a 4-2 victory on Saturday night against Loudoun United FC at Keyworth Stadium.
After a slow start to the first half, City (6-2-2) ended the opening stanza with a flurry of goals, netting three over the final 10 minutes of play.
Le Rouge's first goal came in the 35th minute - forward Antoine Hoppenot played a ball across the penalty area that was deflected off a Loudoun defender into the back of the net for an own goal.
Four minutes later, Hoppenot was back on the attack and found forward Pato Botello Faz waiting inside the 18-yard box and buried it for his third tally of the season.
With the first half entering stoppage time, Hoppenot rushed Le Rouge into position and played a quick corner to midfielder Michael Bryant - his second goal in the past two league outings and third of 2022.
Detroit City would extend its lead to 4-0 in the 53rd minute with midfielder Maxi Rodriguez finishing off a ball from right back Rhys Williams.
Loudoun finally got on the scoreboard in the 68th with a goal from Simonsen who was left untouched in the center of the box.
Moments later, goalkeeper Nate Steinwascher continued his strong play and once again came up big, with a jumping save off of a header from 16 year-old Kristian Fletcher.
Loudoun netted one more two minutes into stoppage time to bring the final score line to 4-2.
Loudoun United controlled the possession with 61% through 90 minutes of play and had over 200 more passes than DCFC. Loudoun also had 19 shots compared to City's 13 and had one more shot on target than Detroit's six.
Up next for Le Rouge is a midweek road trip at Miami FC with the game starting at 7:00 pm ET from Riccardo Silva Stadium on ESPN+ on Wednesday, May 18.
