Memphis 901 FC News Release
MEMPHIS, Tennessee - Memphis 901 FC recorded a big win defeating Indy Eleven 2-1 at home Saturday night. Memphis has won four of their last five matches and ended Indy's four-match winning streak.
Memphis and Indy got off to a quick start, both getting shots off within the first five minutes of the match. Memphis took an early advantage as corners continued to fall in their favor taking five to Indy's zero.
The ball continued to move for 901 FC and hit the back of the net as Zach Carroll volleyed a headed cross from Patrick Seagrist and took a right-footed shot into the bottom right corner to get Memphis up on the board in the 34th minute. 901 FC is 5-0-1 when scoring first.
901 FC built into the box steadily taking their chances leading with seven shots, three on target in the first half to Indy Eleven's four shots with one on target. Memphis established a good rhythm with 86.7% passing accuracy, making the most out of their possession.
Memphis kept the pressure up as Indy looked to equalize the match. Indy Eleven received their first corner of the night in the 58th minute and 901 FC was able to counter as Jeremy Kelly chipped the ball over the Indy defense to the feet of Laurent Kissiedou. The latter took a quick touch and shot the ball past Elliot Panicco to the back of the net from outside the box putting Memphis up 2-0.
Indy Eleven cut the lead down by one as Jonas Fjeldberg took a left-footed shot that deflected and bounced across the goal line out of Trey Muse's hands in the 66th minute. With the match back within one, both teams started pushing hard for control of the ball.
Memphis held strong over the final 20 minutes, putting together a professional performance to secure the three points.
The win puts 901 FC in fourth in the USL Championship Eastern Conference through nine league matches played. With the win, Memphis has won four of its last five matches and earned at least a point in five of its last six USL Championship matches.
Memphis is at AutoZone Park on Wednesday, May 18 to play host to LA Galaxy II at 7:00 p.m. CDT kickoff.
