
Destroyers Carey Place on IR; Sign Bond

(BUFFALO, NY) â The Buffalo Destroyers announced today QB Tim Carey was placed on injured reserve with a pulled groin and the team waived OL/DL John Summerday and WR/DB Hassan Probherbs. Buffalo signed free agents WR/DB Carl Bond, OL/DL Dewayne Sabb and OL/DL Donovan Arp and activated OL/DL Elliot Fortune the from refused to report list.
Carey pulled his groin in the second half of Sunday's game against the Detroit Fury. QB's Chris Sanders and Matt D'Orazio will battle it out during practice this week for the starting spot for this Sunday when the Destroyers play the New York Dragons.
"Chris and Matt are competing for the starting spot but we are also looking into bringing in a veteran quarterback with substantial AFL experience," said Destroyers head coach Ron Selesky.
Bond (5-11, 205, UConn) was signed from the Orlando Predators practice squad. He played two seasons for the Carolina Cobras (2001-02) finishing third on the team with 966 all-purpose yards last season. Bond was an all-af2 selection in 2000 with the Tallahassee Thunder where he set an Arena Football record (AFL or af2) with 2,086 receiving yards.
Sabb (6-4, 265, New Hampshire) spent two seasons with the New Jersey/Las Vegas Gladiators franchise (2001-02) where he tallied 12.5 tackles, 5.5 sacks and three forced fumbles. He appeared in 73 games for the New England Patriots from 1992-1996. Sabb registered 111 career tackles in five seasons with the Patriots and played in Super Bowl XXXI vs. Green Bay. He spent time with the Buffalo Bills in 1998.
Arp (6-3, 295, Louisville) spent two seasons with the Washington Redskins (2001-02). He also spent time on the Carolina Panthers practice squad last season. Arp signed with the Redskins from the Tennessee Titans practice squad on October 3, 2001. He was active for three games with the Redskins in 2001 but did not play.
Buffalo begins a three game road trip Sunday, April 6 as they travel to Long Island to meet the New York Dragons at 12:00 p.m. at the Nassau Coliseum. The Destroyers return home Saturday, April 26 to host the Indiana Firebirds at 7:00 p.m. at the HSBC Arena.
