Despite Young Homer, Pelicans Fall in Second Straight Game to P-Nats

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans fell 6-3 on Thursday night to the Potomac Nationals in front of a sellout crowd of 6,599 from TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark.

The Nationals (48-46, 11-16) jumped out in front early on Pelicans (46-51, 12-15) starter Rollie Lacy (1-1) in the first inning. Bryan Mejia led off the game with a double before Ian Sagdal singled him home. After Aldrem Corredor ripped a single of his own, Rhett Wise curshed a three-run home run to make it 4-0 Potomac.

The P-Nats added on in the second inning when Sadgal bashed a solo shot of his own.

Myrtle Beach found the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning on a Nationals' miscue. Tyler Alamo and Andruw Monasterio collected back-to-back singles to begin the inning when Wladimir Galindo hit into a fielder's choice. Alamo scored on a Potomac throwing error to make it 5-1 Potomac.

In the fifth, the P-Nats answered right back with an RBI single from David Masters to make it 6-1 Nationals.

Jared Young led off the sixth inning with a solo homer, his second of the season and first at home, and Wladimir Galindo crushed an RBI double to give the Pelicans a 6-3 deficit.

Joan Baez (5-8) earned the win for the Nationals, allowing three runs over his 5.1 innings.

Erick Leal tossed three scoreless innings out of the bullpen with three strikeouts for the Pelicans.

The Pelicans finish their three-game series with the Nationals at 7:05 p.m. on Friday. RHP Cory Abbott (2-4, 4.34 ERA) starts for Myrtle Beach against Potomac RHP Wil Crowe (9-0, 2.43 ERA).
