Despite Marte's Career Night, Sox Drop Game One

EVERETT, WA: The Everett AquaSox were back in action against the Eugene Emeralds at Funko Field following the All-Star break and a six-game road trip. Noelvi Marte continued his hot hitting right where he left off, going 4-5 with three doubles, a home run, seven RBI's and 10 total bases. Seattle Mariners outfielder Mitch Haniger was 1-2 with an RBI on his rehab appearance. Despite out hitting the Emeralds 14 to 10, the Sox fell 16-9.
Down 4-0, Everett bounced back in the bottom of the third inning as Marte notched his first double of the game, driving in two, which was followed by an RBI single from Haniger. Marte then hit a three-run home run to right center field in the bottom of the fourth inning, giving the AquaSox a 6-4 lead.
The lead would be short-lived as Frogs pitcher Jarod Bayless came in to pitch the top of the fifth for Everett, walking the first three batters he faced. That is when Emeralds' catcher Patrick Bailey launched a 3-1 fastball for a grand slam to right field, taking the lead right back.
Down 13-7 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Marte hit yet another double scoring two more runs, bringing the Sox closer at 13-9. With his seven RBI's Marte was just two RBI's short of tying his career high of nine back in August of 2021 with the Low-A Modesto Nuts.
Eugene would go on to score three more runs in the top of the eighth inning and closed the door in the ninth, securing the victory. Eugene pitcher Ty Weber (3-3) picked up the win as Frogs pitcher Jarod Bayless (3-3) took the loss.
The AquaSox will be back in action tomorrow night at Funko Field for game two of the short three game series against Eugene. Mitch Haniger will be back for another rehab start as the Frogs feature their Marvel's Defenders of the Diamond uniforms, which will be auctioned off after the game. You can also enjoy post-game fireworks presented by Boeing.
