Dallas Desperados News Release
As the 2006 regular season ended with an 82-38 win over the New York Dragons (establishing a new club record for largest margin of victory), several Desperados players set new team and league single-season records.
Below is a look at the record breakers:
OFFENSE
QB Clint Dolezel
* With his six-toucdown performance in the season finale, Clint Dolezel set a new league record for touchdowns in a season. He ended 2006 with 105 passing touchdowns, breaking Aaron Garcia's record of 104 from 2001.
* Dolezel also established a new benchmark for future Desperados quarterbacks, setting the record for attempts in a season with 572.
* His 11 interceptions on the year tied Glenn Gauntt's team-low from 2004.
* No other quarterback in team history was sacked less than the two times Dolezel was.
OS Terrill Shaw
* In his first full season in Dallas, Terrill Shaw established new team records in each of the major receiving categories. His mark 111 receptions topped Jason Shelley's 103 (2004) while his 1,498 yard topped Shelley's 1,304 (2004). With 37 touchdowns, Shaw topped Bobby Sippio's 32 (2004).
DEFENSE
DS Jermaine Jones
* With eight interceptions in 2006, Jermaine Jones set a new franchise single-season record for interceptions. His 19 all-time picks is also tops in team history.
* In coming up a half tackle shy of 100, Jones beat his own club record for tackles in a season - 74.5 previous mark.
OL/DL Colston Weatherington
* While Colston Weatherington's 7.5 sacks on the year was good for second, he became the club's alltime sack leader with 16.5 by season's end.
SPECIAL TEAMS
K Carlos Martinez
* Carlos Martinez set team and league' records for PATs attempted and converted. His 130 attempts beat out Daron Alcorn's (San Jose) league record 126 (2003). Martinez converted 117 PATs, topping his own league record of 111 from 2005.
