Beckett.com AFL Collectible Player of the Week
May 15, 2006 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release
Based on gaudy numbers alone, Kansas City Brigade OS Aaron Boone deserves serious consideration for Collectible Player of the Week honors. After all, the rookie provided an electrifying capper to his debut season with 13 receptions for 147 yards and five touchdowns in a season-ending loss to Utah.
But on a weekend filled with history, Clint Dolezel gets the nod this week for authoring the new single-season record of 105 touchdown passes.
Dolezel, in his first season with Dallas, entered Friday's finale against New York with 99 touchdown passes, just five shy of the mark Aaron Garcia set in 2001.
In a picture-perfect performance, Dolezel took care of the mark in the first half, tossing the 22-yard record-breaker to Dialleo Burks with just 17 seconds remaining in the second quarter.
Dolezel's sixth touchdown of the half, to go along with 210 passing yards, signaled the end of his first regular season with the Desperados, which included this spectacular stat line: 375-of-572 passing for 4,627 yards, 105 touchdowns and just 11 interceptions.
With Dallas owning home-field advantage throughout the Eastern Conference playoffs and facing a first-round bye this week, Dolezel took the rest of the night off against New York.
Here's betting that three more wins this season (Dallas won a league-best 13 games during the regular season) will make Dolezel's new record seem a whole lot sweeter.
