Las Vegas Desert Dogs News Release

ALBANY, N.Y. - The Las Vegas Desert Dogs rallied from a two-goal deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat the Albany Firewolves 12-10 Saturday night at MVP Arena.

It was the first road victory for Desert Dogs in franchise history, who now move to 3-5 on the year while winning three of their last four games. The Firewolves drop to 2-6.

Rob Hellyer led the Dogs with seven points on two goals and five assists. Connor Kirst added five points on four assists and the game-clinching goal, while Zack Greer tallied three goals and an assist.

Landon Kells made 41 saves and kept the Firewolves scoreless in the fourth quarter to earn the win in net, his third career win in the NLL.

After a back-and-forth first quarter, Vegas took control in the second scoring three of the final four goals before half. Greer was buzzing in the opening half, netting three goals including two in the second quarter to give the Dogs a 7-5 edge at the break.

A cold third quarter zapped the Dogs of their first half momentum, as Albany erased a two-goal halftime lead with a four-goal run. Hellyer finally stopped the bleeding with his first goal of the night with 38 seconds to go in the third. But, the Firewolves got the goal right back, and Vegas headed into the fourth quarter down two.

The Dogs offense came alive in the fourth quarter, as the visitors began climbing back into the game starting with a Charlie Bertrand goal at the 12:58 mark. Hellyer tied the game less than a minute later, before John Phillips buried the go-ahead goal from the right side with 5:23 to play.

The Vegas defense played one of its best 15-minute stretches of the season to close the game out, not allowing Albany any easy shots on Kells - who made 11 saves alone in the fourth quarter.

Las Vegas will return home to face the Calgary Roughnecks on Friday, February 24. Faceoff at Michelob ULTRA Arena is slated for 7:30 p.m.
