VANCOUVER, B.C. - Las Vegas totaled a season-best 16 goals but came out on the wrong end of a shootout Saturday night, falling to the Vancouver Warriors 19-16 at Rogers Arena.

In a battle of the Western Conference's final winless teams, Vancouver picked up the win to move to 1-4 on the season. Las Vegas drops to 0-4.

Down by as many as eight goals in the first half, the Desert Dogs battled back in the second to bring the game within striking distance down the stretch.

Rob Hellyer had a standout night, totaling a season-best 11 points on a goal and 10 assists. Zach Greer also turned in his best game as a Desert Dog, finishing with five goals and an assist.

Trailing 14-8 at the half, Las Vegas clawed back into the game in the third quarter, getting goals from Jacob Ruest, Charlie Bertrand, Reid Reinholdt and Greer to pull it to 17-12 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Dogs didn't go away, rattling off a four-goal run to come within two with 2:59 to play. But Vancouver held on, sealing the game with an empty net goal in the final minute.

After a pair of early goals from Jacob Ruest and Jack Hannah to open the game, the Warriors took command with a six-goal run in the first quarter. The Dogs would get a couple back, but two more goals in the quarter's final minute made it 8-4 for the Warriors in a firecracker of an opening 15 minutes.

Vancouver continued to press in the second quarter with another quick goal, promoting a goalie change for the Desert Dogs as Joel Watson came in for relief for Landon Kells.

Down 14-6, the Desert Dogs managed two more goals before the break to trim the deficit to six before the half.

Both teams will be right back at it next weekend when Vegas hosts the Warriors for their first-ever trip to Michelob ULTRA Arena on Friday, January 20. Faceoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on MyLVTV and ESPN+.
