San Diego Seals News Release
The San Diego Seals fell to the Calgary Roughnecks 14-10 on Saturday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome. This marks the team's first loss of the season.
"It was a typical night in the NLL", said General Manager and Head Coach Patrick Merrill. "They came out fired up, ready to go and were hungrier than us all game. They got off to a hot start and that was the difference maker at the end of the night."
Calgary jumped out to a 5-0 lead early in the first quarter. San Diego inched their back into the game throughout the contest, but the Roughnecks transition game and special teams were ultimately the difference.
"Our veterans really grinded tonight," continued Merrill. "They were getting their nose dirty, scoring goals, taking every shift, making some big plays to keep us in the game."
Forwards Curtis Dickson and Dane Dobbie each notched a hat trick against their former squad. Wesley Berg netted a pair, while the captain Brodie Merrill added a goal in transition and eight loose balls. The Seals power-play scored on three out of four chances.
San Diego will head to Denver to face the Colorado Mammoth on Saturday, January 28 before returning home on February 4 to host Panther City. For breaking news and updates, follow the Seals on social media @SealsLax.
