Portland Winterhawks defenseman Derrick Pouliot has been named to Canada's Under-18 Team that will compete at the 2011 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament from Aug. 8-13 in Breclav, Czech Republic, and Piestany, Slovakia.

Pouliot will join Winterhawks defenseman Josh Hanson at the tournament, as Hanson will be playing for the U.S. team.

"To be selected for Canada's national team among such a talented group of players is a tremendous honor for Derrick," said Portland Winterhawks General Manager & Head Coach Mike Johnston. "This tournament will be a great experience for him as he plays against some of the best players in the world in his age group."

Pouliot, the first overall pick of the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft, had five goals and 25 assists for 30 points last season in his first full WHL campaign. He added four points in 21 playoff games.

Winterhawks forward Brendan Leipsic also attended Team Canada's selection camp, but suffered a concussion in an intrasquad game on Sunday that sidelined him for the remainder of the camp.

The 2011 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament includes teams from Canada, the Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States.

Season tickets for the 2011-12 season are on sale now. Fans can call 503-236-HAWK or email seats@winterhawks.com to book their seats.
