Denver Outlaws News Release
DENVER-July 2, 2008-On Independence Day, the Denver Outlaws take on the San Francisco Dragons at INVESCO Field at Mile High. After the game, close proximity fireworks will be displayed within the stadium. This will be the second consecutive year the Outlaws host the July 4th game, however, different than in prior years, the fireworks and multi-media display will be best experienced from inside the stadium. The high-impact fireworks show is set to ignite close to 10,000 rounds, 8,000 more than last year's 4th of July display. The Outlaws set the professional lacrosse attendance record at last year's July 4th game, drawing 19,793 fans.
During halftime Flying Dogs will be featured. Not only do these amazing dogs catch Frisbees, but they do tricks while catching them. Elitch Gardens has teamed up with the Outlaws to give their fans a special treat. Fans can get one ticket to the July 4th game and a one-day pass to Elitch Gardens for only $25.
The Outlaws currently lead the Western Conference with a 5-2 record, while the Dragons sit at the bottom with a record of 1-5. Even though the Dragons have the better overall record against the Outlaws, 4-3, Denver defeated San Francisco, 19-16, at their last meeting on June 14.
Single game tickets to the Fourth of July game start at $15 and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com or the INVESCO Field box office.
The July 4th game will be the last home Outlaws game before the league's best come to the Mile High City for the MLL All-Star Game on July 17. Among the all-stars are eight of Denver's best: Brian Langtry, Ryan Powell, Jeff Sonke, Brendan Mundorf, Matt Hanna, Benson Erwin, Lee Zink and Jesse Schwartzman. In addition to these on field stars, the Outlaws' coaches have the honor of coaching the West with GM and Head Coach Brian Reese leading the way.
Coach Reese has led the Outlaws to five wins and only two losses to lead the Western Conference. The Outlaws currently have four of the top 25 scorers in the MLL, including All-Stars Langtry, Mundorf and Powell. Langtry has had a phenomenal season thus far tallying 33 points, only two points shy of the league's scoring leader, John Grant, Jr. of the Rochester Rattlers. Powell's 23 points in five games have established him as a leading attackman in the MLL.
Sonke will join the Western Conference team for his fifth All-Star appearance. Attackman Mundorf has recorded 26 points on the season, including six points against Chicago. Erwin's versatility at midfield and the consistency and big numbers of Hanna's games have helped the Outlaws in their pursuit of the playoffs. The Outlaws' defense has greatly benefitted from Zink's power and skill. First-time All-Star and Outlaws goaltender Schwartzman has 111 saves thus far this season with a goals against average of 13.45.
In addition to the Outlaws stars, Chicago's Kevin Leveille, Kyle Harrison from Los Angeles, and San Francisco's Jake Byrne will play for the West and Coach Reese. The brother of Ryan Powell, Mikey Powell, and John Grant, Jr. will support the East with help from Matt Striebel, Stephen Berger, and goalie Chris Garrity.
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN2 with commentary from Joe Beninati and Quint Kessenich. Halftime will once again feature the Bud Light Skills Competition.
