Denver Cutthroats News Release

Denver - The Denver Cutthroats faced the Rapid City Rush on Friday, October 11, 2013 for the first of two games in the preseason series. The Cutthroats fell by one in overtime with a final score of 4-3.

The game started with a punch as Denver's Dan Barnes and Rapid City's Justin Sawyer took their gloves off to fight early in the first period. Not soon after, the Rush put the first puck of the night into the net. Phil Mangan was assisted by Tristin Llewellyn and Jared Brown to put the Rush up by one with 7:10 on the clock. Denver's own Cam Reid scored the first goal of the night for the Cutthroats with an assist from Michael Trebish to close the opening period.

Tension continued to build through the second period with another fight between Denver's Assistant Captain Sean Zimmerman and Rapid City's Justin Faryna. Early in the second period the Rush took the lead off a goal by Eric Giosa (Brown and Scott Brannon), only to be matched minutes later by T.J. Fox (Matt Glasser). With less than a minute left, Rapid City scored to take a 3-2 lead into the third period with a goal from Tyler Gjurich (Shaun Jameson and Kyle Stroh).

The only score in the third came off a sizzling slap shot from Denver's Garett Bembridge with assists from Troy Schwab and A.J. Gale. Bembridge is joining Schwab and Gale on the top line for the first time after the retirement of Brad Smyth, who is behind the bench this season as Assistant Coach. The game went into overtime, where Brown (Brannon and Llewellyn) scored the winning goal to put the final score at 4-3 Rush.

The Cutthroats head to Rapid City for the second game in the preseason series. The puck drops at 7:05 PM at Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.

Three Stars:

1. Jared Brown

2. Tyler Gjurich

3. T.J. Fox
