Denver Cutthroats News Release

Rapid City, S.D. - The Denver Cutthroats took on the Rapid City Rush for the second game in the home-and-home series in Rapid City, S.D. on Saturday, October 12. After defeating the Cutthroats at home in overtime 4-3 on Friday, the Rush closed the series with a 4-2 victory.

Denver took an early lead in the opening period as Dan Barnes (Jordan Ethier ) shot the puck past Rapid City's Keaton Hartigan . Tension from last night's brawl between Barnes and Rapid City's Justin Sawyer had not settled as the two were sent to the penalty box for their second battle in this preseason series. A goal from Scott Wray (Kyle Stroh and Scott Brannon ) of the Rush tied up the game with almost ten minutes left in the first period.

Rapid City took the lead in the second with a shot from Cody Keefer (Tyler Gjurich and Tristin Llewellyn). Coming out of the penalty box, Denver's Michael Trebish (J.P. Chabot and Nik Polaski) sent the puck flying into the net to put the score at 2-2.

The weight of the game shifted early in the third period when Rapid City's Phil Mangan (Brannon and Stroh) put the score up 3-2. Less than a minute later, Mangan's teammate, Jared Brown (Wray and Brett Kostolansky) scored his second goal in the preseason series and closed out the night with a final score 4-2 over the Cutthroats.

The Denver Cutthroats will open their regular season at home on Friday, October 18 against the Tulsa Oilers. The puck will drop at 7:00 PM at the Denver Coliseum. Visit www.DenverCutthroats.com for more information or call 866.464.2626 for tickets.
