
Dempsey powers Wild Things past Rascals

WASHINGTON, PA - Jacob Dempsey powered the Wild Things past the Rascals 11-6 on Saturday night at Consol Energy Park. Dempsey finished the game 3-4 with five runs batted in, including a three run home run in the eighth.
The Wild Things (5-9) led 8-6 heading into the eighth inning and scored three insurance runs off Tyler Musselwhite (1-2). Michael Parker walked and Grant Psomas singled to set the stage for Dempsey, who blasted a three run homer to left field to put the Rascals away.
River City (9-6) plated three runs in the first to take an early 3-0 lead. Scott Houin doubled and Jorge Gutierrez followed with an RBI single. Chad Maddox doubled later in the frame and Ryan Wehrle plated two with a single to left for a 3-0 advantage.
Washington would answer and take a 4-3 lead with three runs in the third, highlighted by a Brett Grandstrand two RBI single.
The Wild Things would chase Scott Turmail after plating a run in the fifth on an Alan Robbins solo home run. Turmail went five and allowed five runs on eight hits.
Jason Neitz lasted only five for the Wild Things, allowing five runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.
The Rascals took their final lead of the night in the fifth, scoring two to chase Neitz. Gutierrez plated Cameron Howell, who doubled to lead off the inning. River City got their second run when Gutierrez stole second and Houin came charging from third and ran over Robbins for a 5-4 lead.
Rick Austin (1-1) picked up the win, working two innings allowing one run on one hit with three strikeouts.
Houin, Gutierrez and Maddox all had two hits for the Rascals, with Gutierrez and Wehrle combining for four runs batted in.
The two teams will wrap up regular season series tomorrow night at 5:35 p.m. A pair of southpaws will take the bump with Chris Ingoglia going for the Rascals and Aaron Fuhrman for the Wild Things.
