Lakewood, NJ- Shorebirds starting pitcher and Baltimore Orioles 2007 fourth round selection Tim Bascom, making his first affiliated professional start, threw five perfect innings and struck out nine but did not favor in the decision as Delmarva slipped past Lakewood 3-2 Monday night at FirstEnergy Park.
Brandon Tripp singled in the winning run in the top of the ninth plating Pedro Florimon. Florimon ended the night two for three with a RBI but his most important contribution was blocking the view of BlueClaws shortstop Fidel Hernandez on a soft liner from Todd Davison. The play happend with two outs and kept the inning alive by forcing an error. Tripp was two for five with the game winning RBI and Billy Rowell was three for four with a run scored.
Lakewood scored two runs off reliever Wilfrido Perez including one in the eighth to tie the game on a two RBI single from Quintin Berry. Perez picked up the win in relief and is now 2-2 on the season. Chad Thall worked a perfect ninth to earn his 10th save of the season. Pedro Beato (3-2, 3.43 ERA) takes the hill for Delmarva in game two on Tuesday night, Lakewood has yet to name a starter.
