Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
Charleston, WV - The Kannapolis Intimidators scored five runs in the seventh and eighth innings to go from down 4-1 to up 6-4 and they held on to beat the West Virginia Power by that score Sunday evening at Appalachian Power Park. The Intimidators (2-2, 34-40) and the Power (2-2, 50-22) split the four-game series, while West Virginia took six of eight in the season series.
The pitching, overall, was fantastic for the Intimidators. Starter Fautino De Los Santos allowed four runs on four hits in the second and third innings combined. Outside of those two innings, Kannapolis allowed just one hit the rest of the way. De Los Santos (5-2) got the win, striking out eight in six innings. Carlos Perez worked two scoreless innings and Noe Rodriguez earned his first professional save in 95 appearances.
West Virginia, and more specifically Power starter Mike Ramlow, had Kannapolis reeling through six innings. The only damage done on Ramlow was Chris Carter's solo home run in the fourth inning, his league-leading 17th of the year.
Then came the seventh inning. Reliever J.T. King came in and allowed the first four batters to reach on two walks, a single, and a double. In the pivotal inning of the game, King allowed four runs on three hits.
Kannapolis added another run in the eighth to give itself an insurance run.
Lee Cruz and John Anderson each had three hits on the night. For Anderson, it was his second straight night with three knocks.
The Intimidators fared much better in their second series against the Power than they did in their first. Aside from winning two games this time around, they slowed down the West Virginia offense for large stretches in the last three games. In the first series, West Virginia scored 37 runs on 54 hits. In this four-game series, even with a 9-0 loss in the first game and 19 hits for the Power in the third game, West Virginia tallied just 25 runs on 40 hits. In the last three games, the Power scored in just eight of the 31 innings.
Kannapolis returns home Monday night to take on the Hickory Crawdads in a four-game commuter series. The Intimidators will be home Monday and Wednesday and at Hickory Tuesday and Thursday. Game time Monday at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium is set for 7:05 pm.
