Tomlin, Captains Shut Down Suns

East Lake, OH: The Hagerstown Suns were defeated 5-3 on Monday night at Classic Park. Lake County Captains' starter Josh Tomlin goes to 7-0 after firing 7-solid innings.

The Suns, (0-5, 29-43) had the lead twice in the game thanks in part to a 4th inning HR by Marvin Lowrance, his 2nd dinger of the season. The Suns added one more in the inning on a RBI double by Jhonatan Solano. However, with Zach Baldwin making his first start of the season, the Captains, (4-1, 35-40) got the runs right back in the home half to tie it. The Suns took the lead again in the 5th on a RBI single by Lowrance, but the Captains scored twice off of Jeff Mandel, who was just called up from Vermont. Mandel gave up a leadoff homerun in the 5th to Jason Denham and after a RBI single by Matt Whitney, the Captains had a 4-3 lead. They added one more on a leadoff HR by Nick Weglarz in the 7th to make it 5-3 and never looked back.

The Suns went down very quietly, as the Captains retired the last 13 Suns in order. The Suns lost their sixth in a row, a season high and are now 14 games under .500, the lowest water mark of the season.

Tomorrow, the Suns and Captains finish their series off at Classic Park, first pitch is scheduled for 7:05PM.
