DeJesus Dominates Roadrunners

HARLINGEN - Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings starter Misael DeJesus (6-5) struck out 11 in nine innings of work to beat the Edinburg Roadrunners 5-1 on Saturday at Harlingen Field.

Wilmer Pino led off the game with a four-pitch walk against DeJesus, but six of the next eight Roadrunners (44-30) struck out. Pino singled with two outs in the third, but DeJesus retired five-straight, allowed a walk, and then retired five more batters.

The Roadrunners put runners on second and third with one out in the seventh against DeJesus, but Osiel Flores popped out and Eddie Wilson struck out on three pitches to end the threat.

The only run came on a solo home run by Nelson Teilon in the top of the ninth.

The WhiteWings (38-38) got on the board against Tim Haines (3-9) right away. With one out in the bottom of the first, the WhiteWings loaded the bases and Welington Dotel hit a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0.

Welinson Baez led off the bottom of the sixth with an infield single. One out later, Domenic Di Ricco walked and Roberto Rodriguez reached on a fielder's choice. Javis Diaz followed with an RBI-single to make it 2-0.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Dotel was hit by a 3-2 pitch from Aaron Guerra, and the on 0-2, Baez launched his ninth home run of the season to make it 4-0.

The WhiteWings added a two-out run in the bottom of the eighth on a single by Sanchez.

The WhiteWings travel to Veterans Field for the final time in the regular season to visit the Laredo Broncos, who are expected to announce the signing of former-American League Most Valuable Player and six-time All-Star Jose Canseco on Monday, for the game one of a four-game series on Sunday at 7:35 p.m. Right-hander Steve Raburn (3-2) is expected to face right-hander Matt Gibbs (5-3).
