San Angelo Colts News Release
Amarillo, TX---After dropping two of the first three games against the Dillas the Colts looked to get out of Amarillo with a split before returning home, but it was not meant to be as the Colts blew a seven run lead. What began as a pitching duel between two pitchers in the top five in the league in ERA, between the Colts Chandler Barnard and the Dillas Ryan Mitchell, turned into a slugfest. It featured a combined thirteen run seventh inning between the two squads and would end in extra frames with the Dillas winning in the twelve on a walk off single winning 9-8 as San Angelo blew an 8-1 lead.
Dillas struck first with an RBI single by the newly acquired catcher Kevin Butler who made it 1-0 in his very first at bat for Amarillo. In the top of the fifth Ronnie Gaines would give the Colts the lead with his third triple of the year that drove in two and the Colts were up 2-1. It was in the seventh when both team exploded. In the top of the seventh the Colts scored six times on RBI doubles that drove in two each by Jason Landreth and Alex Fernandez. Jason Crosland (23) followed Fernandez with a two-run homer as the Colts sent ten men to the plate scoring six times and were up big 8-1, and looked like they would cruise to victory.
San Angelo would not though as the slugfest was on once again, when the Dillas answered in the bottom of the seventh with seven runs as eleven men came to the plate. Amarillo received their runs on a RBI single by Kevin Butler his second of the game, an RBI groundout by Joaquin Rodriguez, an RBI single by Carolos Figuero that drove in two, a wild pitch, and RBI single for both Stephen Douglas and Rob Recuenco and it was all tied up at 8-8.
The score would remain the same until the twelve when Jermel Lomack tripled with one out and scored on an Adam De La Garza RBI single as the Dillas win 9-8 in extra innings in walk off fashion. The loss was San Angelo's seventh defeat on their eight game road trip.
With playoff picture still taking shape the Colts return to Foster Field on Sunday to take on the front running Edinburg Roadrunners for the final time this season in game one of a four game series. San Angelo sends out southpaw Logan Williamson Barnard (1-2, 4.66) against Edinburg ace Wardell Starling 7-1, 2.90) a pitcher yet to be determined for Edinburg. Sunday is also Negro League Appreciation Night at the ballpark. All the action begins with the Kemps pre-game show beginning at 6:50 with the first pitch set for 7:05 on 1260 KKSA.
