Roadrunners Drop Finale In Harlingen

HARLINGEN, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners dropped the series finale to the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings with a score of 5-1 Saturday night at Harlingen Field.

With the loss, the Roadrunners fall to 44-30 on the season and hold a one and a half game lead over the Amarillo Dillas, pending the results from Amarillo's contest with the San Angelo Colts.

The WhiteWings (38-38) got on the score board against Tim Haines (3-9) in the top of the first. Luany Sanchez got things started with a double and then moved to third after Yuerys Tejeda was walked and Leivi Ventura singled. With the bases loaded, Wellington Dotel then hit a sacrifice fly to right field that allowed Sanchez to score giving RGV the 1-0 lead.

Wellinson Baez started the bottom of the sixth with a single then moved to second after Domenic DiRicco was walked. After a fielder's choice moved Baez to third, Javis Diaz hit an RBI single to right field scoring Baez extending the WhiteWings lead to 2-0.

RGV extended their lead in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run home run from Baez making it 4-0.

The WhiteWings added another run in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI single by Sanchez that allowed Diaz to score extending their lead 5-0.

Nelson Teilon gave Edinburg the only run of the game with his sixth home run of the season but Misael DeJesus (6-5) retired the next three batters to give RGV the 5-1 victory.

DeJesus pitched a complete game allowing just one run on four hits while striking out 11.

The Roadrunners continue their eight-game road trip as they head to San Angelo to face the Colts in a four-game series starting Sunday night at Foster Field. Wardell Starling (7-1) is expected to face Logan Williamson with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
