Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release

Luis DeJesus entered Friday nights game against the Vermont Lake monsters ranked 4th in the NYPL with a 1.64 ERA and the most consistent starter in the Scrappers rotation. He was all of that and more as he completely dominated the Vermont hitters all night while pitching the Scrappers to a 2-0 victory.DeJesus mixed speeds and locations all night to keep the Lake monster hitters off balance and swinging at air. All DeJesus did was work 4.1 perfect innings before allowing a single. He came right back to record a strike out and a ground out to strand that runner on base. He ended up going 7 innings while scattering 3 hits. He did not allow a run, did not walk a batter, and struck out 6 to pick up his 4th win of the season. Rafeal Homblert relieved DeJesus in the 8th inning. He got a strike out to start the inning before allowing 3 of the next 4 to reach base. That brought Jack Wagoner into the game with the bases loaded and 2 outs. He promptly struck out Chris Bostick to leave the bases loaded and preserve the 2-0 lead. Wagoner would close out the game working around a 1 out error in the 9th to record his first save of the season.

The Scrappers offense was held at bay most of the night as well but did enough. Erik Gonzalez led off the 3rd inning with a walk. A passed ball and a ground out put him at 3rd with 2 outs. Jairo Kelly then lined a single to right field for the 1-0 lead. It was all DeJesus needed. The Scrappers would add an insurance run in the 7th.

The Scrappers will now head to Tri-City to continue their 6 game road trip. Join Tim Pozsgai as he calls all the action on 1570 WHTX and on our website at www.mvscrappers.com. The Scrappers will return home on August 7th to host the Williamsport Crosscutters. Call the Scrappers box office at 330-505-0000 to get your tickets.
