Amarillo Gorillas News Release

Amarillo, TX 9/24/09 - The Amarillo Gorillas have inked two additional defensemen in veteran Rod Aldoff and Bert Molloy, the team announced earlier today.

Aldoff, 38 (01/30/1971), began his career in 1991 and earned a Turner Cup championship last season with the Fort Wayne Komets of the International Hockey League.

"Rod certainly brings knowledge and experience to the table," remarked Gorillas Head Coach Brian Pellerin. "Although Rod has never played in the Central league, he is a proven champion who our players will turn to for advice on and off the ice."

The Lethbridge, Alberta local jumpstarted his hockey career in 1991 playing four years at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He would improve his point production in three of his four seasons before turning professional in 1995 with the Tallahassee Tiger Sharks of the ECHL. Aldoff would appear in eight separate leagues (ECHL in 95-99, 02-03, 05-06, Swiss-A in 96-97, IHL in 96-97, 99-00, 07-09, MLRH (Roller Hockey) in 1998, WCHL in 99-00 & 01-02, Second League Bundesliga (Germany) in 00-01 & 03-04, Italy in 01-02, and the UHL in 04-05) throughout his career. Aldoff earned accolades such as the "Best Defender" award during the 2000-2001 season with his German team (Ingolstadt ERC), the first defenseman to win the IHL's "Player of the Week" award in December of 2008, and won two league championships (2003-2004 Straubing Tigers (Germany) & 2008-2009 Fort Wayne Komets of the IHL).

Molloy, 22 (11/20/1986), skated for Division III Lebanon Valley his previous four years. As a senior, Malloy was team captain and voted as the team's most valuable player.

"Its tough to find outstanding character players such as Bert," added Pellerin. "I don't think I'll have to be concerned about his work ethic during training camp. He has the ability to play forward and defense which is important."

The two-sport athlete (started in the outfield for the Lebanon Valley baseball team and acted as the team's captain) started all 25 games as a senior and led all defenseman in scoring his sophomore season. Prior to his Dutchmen days, Molloy skated three years for the Hartford Junior Wolfpack of the Atlantic Junior Hockey League, serving as the team's captain for two seasons. Molloy would also play team leader his junior and senior years of high school hockey.
