Defensemen Chad Denny, Matt Clarke Join Grizzlies

West Valley City, Utah - Utah Grizzlies Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Colley today announced that the team has signed defenseman Chad Denny and that defenseman Matt Clarke has joined the Grizzlies from the training camp of the AHL's Abbotsford Heat.

The Grizzlies and Heat are the minor league affiliates for the NHL's Calgary Flames.

Denny was selected in the second round and 49th overall by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Last year, the six-foot-three defenseman totaled nine goals and 15 assists for 24 points with the ECHL's Gwinnett Gladiators. Denny enters his fourth year pro. He has 13 games of AHL experience with the Chicago Wolves as well.

Matt Clarke, 22, returns to Utah after tallying four goals and 19 assists for 23 points in 61 games last year while also totaling eight games with the AHL's Lake Erie Monsters. The London, Ontario native also had five assists in nine Utah playoff games. He was also on the roster for the Calgary Flames prospect camp this year after attending the same camp in Colorado in 2009.

Utah's preseason opener is Friday in Boise against Idaho. The Grizzlies return to Utah Saturday to play the Steelheads in Logan at the Eccles Ice Center at 7:30 p.m. Training camp continues all week at the Acord Center. Visit www.utahgrizzlies.com for more information.

The Grizzlies open the 2010-2011 season Friday, October 15 in Alaska with the home opener being Friday, October 22 when Utah welcomes Bakersfield to Maverik Center for a 7:05 p.m. start.
