Columbia Inferno News Release

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Nov. 1, 2007)- Defenseman Ren Fauci has been suspended in violation of club rules, Columbia Inferno head coach and director of hockey operations Troy Mann announced today. Fauci will retire from professional hockey and return to his home in New Jersey to pursue his education.

"Sometimes players decide that their heart simply isn't in the game anymore," Mann said. "We enjoyed Ren's time with the organization, and we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors."

The retirement marks the end of Fauci's second season with the Inferno. In five games this season, Fauci notched one goal and 11 penalty minutes. He had 13 points (six goals, seven assists) and 75 penalty minutes in 61 career professional games, all with the Inferno.

Fauci, a native of Randolph, N.J., had played college hockey at Lake Superior State University from 2002-03 through 2005-06, tallying 30 points (seven goals, 23 assists) and 118 penalty minutes before signing with the Inferno for the 2006-07 season.

The Inferno conclude their five-game homestand this weekend with games against the Augusta Lynx on Friday, Nov. 2 and the South Carolina Stingrays on Saturday, Nov. 3. Both games start at 7:05 p.m.
