Checkers Trade Hartwick To Jackals

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - General manager and head coach of the Charlotte Checkers, Derek Wilkinson, announced that the team has traded defenseman, Mike Hartwick to the Elmira Jackals in exchange for future considerations. Also, the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League have called up defenseman, Ryan Constant.

Hartwick, 6-foot-3, 216 pounds, hails from Bedford, N. H. and is a product of Dartmouth College where he totaled 171 penalty minutes in 122 games. He began his professional career last season when he played seven games for the Wheeling Nailers. He managed to play only one game this season with the Checkers registering no points and two penalty minutes.

Constant, 5-foot-11, 195 pounds, played in 65 games with the Checkers last season and five with the Wolf Pack. This season, the Opaskwayak Cree Nation, Manitoba born defenseman has played in four games scoring one goal and one assist for two points with six penalties minutes and a +2.

The Checkers began their 15th season of play as a member of the ECHL. The next home game takes place on Nov. 7 against the South Carolina Stingrays. In the team's 14-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 10 times including three consecutive playoff appearances to date. The Checkers will enter their third season of play at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena this fall. Season tickets are on sale now with full-season packages starting at just $399.
