Defending champ Yakama downs Pittsburgh

YAKAMA, Wash., December 27, 2006 - Andre Joseph poured in a game-high 33 points for Pittsburgh (0-9), but defending league champion Yakama (9-4) sprinted out to a 22-2 lead to start the ballgame and coasted to a 130-94 victory in Continental Basketball Association action at the Sun Dome. Greg Jenkins (13 points), Kevin Pittsnogle (12) and Shawn Hawkins (11) also reached double figures for the Xplosion.

After trailing big early, Pittsburgh rallied and cut the Sun Kings lead down to 12 early in the second quarter, 35-23. The National Division leading Sun Kings, however, responded to the spurt with an 18-4 run of their own to take command of the contest 53-27. .

Yakama controlled the glass outrebounding Pittsburgh 62-48. The Sun Kings also shot well from the field hitting at a 53 percent clip. The Xplosion connected on 37-91 field goal attempts for 40 percent.

The Sun Kings picked up six of seven quarter points with the win, while the Xplosion won the final quarter (37-27) to pick up a point. Ralph Holmes led Yakama, which put nine of 10 players in double figures, with 25 points.

The Xplosion continue its West Coast swing on Wednesday, December 29 when the team travels to Salt Lake City to face the Utah Eagles.
