Dee Maggitt Jr. Named IFL Defensive Player of the Week
March 6, 2019 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Tucson Sugar Skulls News Release
TUCSON, ARIZONA - It took only one week for the expansion Tucson Sugar Skulls to earn a league honor.
Defensive back Dee Maggitt Jr. was named the IFL's Defensive Player of the Week after getting two interceptions in the Sugar Skulls franchise-opening, 65-44, victory over the San Diego Strike Force.
Maggitt, from Aloha, Oregon, and the University of Hawaii, picked off a pass off a deflection in the end zone and returned it 34 yards with about one minute left in the first half. His second pick was in the last minute of the game and ended the Strike Force's last possession.
"Dee is an exceptional player. He's smart, technically sound and has a great understanding of the game," said Head Coach Marcus Coleman. "Having those attributes allows him to make plays in both man and zone coverage. I'm happy he was honored this week."
Maggitt had seven interceptions in 2016 when earned second-team All-IFL honors while playing for the Tri-Cities Fever. He spent the 2017 season as a defensive back and kick returner with the Iowa Barnstormers.
The Sugar Skulls open their home season at the Tucson Arena this Sunday at 3 p.m. against the Bismarck Bucks. The game will be televised live locally on The CW, KWBA-TV, Channel 58. It also will be streamed live on YouTube on the IFL YouTube channel for fans outside the viewing area. Season tickets are still available at prices starting at $98. Single-game tickets are as low as $17. Tickets can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com or by calling the Tucson Convention Center ticket office at (520) 791-4101, option 1.
