January 26, 2009 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Flint Generals News Release
FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals of the International Hockey League announce late this afternoon that defenseman Kyle Deck has been traded to the Port Huron Icehawks. In return, the Generals will receive forward Derek Patrosso and Paul Holder, effective immediately.
Deck appeared in all 45 games for the Generals this season recording 13 goals, 25 assists, for 38 points leading all IHL defensemen and all rookies in points scored this season. Patrosso appeared in 34 games with Port Huron registering 21 points. He spent his collegiate career (2004-2008) with the NCAA's Colorado College, one of the top programs in the country. Holder appeared in 16 games with Port Huron and started out this season with the CHL's Rapid City Rush
"This is a very difficult trade for us to make," said Head Coach Bobby Reynolds. "We realize that Kyle is probably not going to be in this league next year. Everyone recognizes the talent he has which in turn means a good look from the American or the East Coast League. We needed to secure a couple of quality players we know can be here for the long term as we want to solidify our 6 - man defensive unit."
Reynolds knows this move can be a huge question mark in the minds of many but building for a stretch run for playoff contention and the Generals' future is important as well. "Patrosso and Holder will help the Generals," continued Reynolds. "They are solid and steady players that can make an impact at both ends of the ice. There was a good possibility that we were going to lose "Decker" before the end of the season." continued Reynolds. "We wanted to get players now that could help us throughout the reaminder of the season. The good news is, this helps us tremendously as we continue to fight for a playoff spot.
"In the short term, they provide us with much needed stability and depth. In the long term, we gain two valuable defenseman for the price of one who will, more than likely, move up in the pro ranks," continued Reynolds. "This move is important to the Flint Generals and to Kyle Deck. We thank Kyle for a tremendous season and wish him well in Port Huron and his professional future."
