
IHL Announces Weekly Honors

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Fort Wayne left wing Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn has been named the Pepsi IHL Player of the Week, Flint defenseman Kyle Deck has been named the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Week and Bloomington goaltender Ryan Ludzik has been named the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, January 25th, 2009.
Versteeg-Lytwyn finished the week scoring four goals and dishing out five assists (nine points) in three games played. He also capped off the week with a plus-6 rating. The 22-year-old Sharon, Ontario native notched in an IHL individual game-high six points Saturday in the Komets 10-3 win in Muskegon. Since being claimed off of waivers from Flint by the Komets on January 15th, Versteeg-Lytwyn has played in six games, registering 11 points (5g, 6a) and is plus-7. Versteeg-Lytwyn is currently riding a three game goal and point streak (4g, 5a).
Other players nominated for the Pepsi IHL Player of the Week include: Bloomington forward Jon Booras, Flint forward Greg Bullock, Kalamazoo center Glenn Detulleo, Muskegon right wing Frank Littlejohn and Port Huron right wing Jamie Carroll.
Deck completed Week 15 of his rookie season notching in two goals and two assists in three games played. He scored his two goals Thursday, where he also scored the game-winning goal in the shootout versus Bloomington. Deck also had an assist Friday vs. Port Huron and one Sunday in Kalamazoo, extending his point streak to three games (2g, 2a). The 23-year-old Sedley, Saskatchewan native is currently leading all rookies in points (38), assists (25), power play goals (7) and power play assists (8). Deck also leads all IHL defensemen in points, goals (13) and power play goals.
Other players nominated for the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Week include: Bloomington goaltender Ryan Ludzik, Fort Wayne forward Rick Varone, Kalamazoo center Tommy Lange, Muskegon left wing Alec Kirschner and Port Huron goaltender Ryan Mior.
Ludzik earns his third goaltender of the week honor this season after going undefeated in regulation this past week, recording a 1-0-0-2 record. He posted a .933 save percentage and a 2.21 goals against average, playing a total of 190 minutes. The 20-year-old Niagara Falls, Ontario native made a total of 98 saves in the three games played only allowing seven goals against. In his last nine games he has started, Ludzik has posted a 4-1-1-2 record, with his only loss coming on January 15th in Port Huron.
Other players nominated for the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week include: Flint's Chad Alban, Fort Wayne's Nick Boucher, Kalamazoo's Joel Martin, Muskegon's Clayton Pool and Port Huron's Ryan Mior.
